JAK Roofing

Shortlisted for Best use of concrete or clay tiles for a domestic project:

Nestled within a parkland setting of landscaped gardens and mature woodland, this bespoke Arts and Crafts country house in Sywell is a truly impressive sight. The extensive roof, spanning a total of 1,300m², was a key feature of the design, requiring the precise fitting of around 78,000 Redland Rosemary Clay Classic roof tiles in Medium Mixed Brindle.

The roof was defined by intricate design details, including multiple valleys, gullies, chimneys, and varying pitches. A standout aesthetic feature was the vertical cladding on seven distinct sections of the house, installed in a decorative Winchester-cut pattern to create a traditional and distinctive appearance.

The client's reaction to the finished roof was the most rewarding part of the project. As Scott Dunmore, Contracts Manager at JAK Roofing, shared, the homeowners were captivated by the Medium Mixed Brindle colour. “Every time they walked down the site, they were excited to see it coming together. When it was finished, they were absolutely over the moon, and that was just the best. To see the customer so happy with the final product is amazing.”

GRD Homes

Shortlisted for Best use of slate for a domestic project:

Just a couple of minutes on foot from the centre of St Davids but also on the edge of the countryside, Maes-Y-Felin is a tranquil development built to uncompromisingly high standards.

Consisting of 58 new homes - included in which are 18 affordable housing homes designated for locals. The houses are traditionally built using the very best materials, giving them solidity and longevity.

Time honoured touches such as native Pennant stone, Cambrian Slate roof tiles, and oak flooring combine with forward thinking additions such as charging points for electrical vehicles.

The choice of Redland Cambrian Slate tiles was crucial for planning approval in a designated conservation area. Their robust fixing ensures performance for the windy peninsula setting, while their composition (over 60% recycled Welsh natural slate, manufactured just 100 miles away) underscored the project's eco-conscious approach.
